چکیده
The observation that ABO agglutinins are present in a wide variety of pollens (Denborough, 1964) and so must commonly be inhaled, and the knowledge that plant agglutinins are antigenic (Mikela, 1957), prompted us to study secretor status in allergic disease of the respiratory tract, namely in asthma and hay fever. The opportunity has been taken to measure the amount of isoagglutinins present in the serum and saliva of these subjects at the same time.

متن کاملImproving the power to detect risk variants for allergic disease by defining case-control status based on both asthma and hay fever.
Asthma and hay fever are likely to share hundreds if not thousands of genetic risk variants. Despite this, the extent to which the power to identify shared risk variants could be improved by considering information from both diseases when designing or analyzing genetic studies has not been studied in detail. Simulations were performed to quantify the power to detect an association between case-...
متن کاملObesity increases the risk of incident asthma among adults.
The annual incidence of asthma in adults in northern Sweden has been estimated at 2.3 per thousand population. Risk factors for incident asthma among adults were studied in a case-referent study based on incident cases of asthma during 1995-1999. The healthcare providers reported suspected cases of incident asthma. After clinical examination, 309 (65% female) of 473 reported subjects were inclu...
متن کاملDifferent slopes for different folks: socioeconomic and racial/ethnic disparities in asthma and hay fever among 173,859 U.S. men and women.
Although allergic diseases such as asthma and hay fever are a major cause of morbidity in industrialized countries, most studies have focused on patterns of prevalence among children and adolescents, with relatively few studies on variations in prevalence by race/ethnicity and socioeconomic position among adults. Our study examined racial/ethnic and socioeconomic patterns in the prevalence of a...
